  • The 17th C. witnessed the incremental arrival of a secret society called the AA (Associatio Amicorum), in which members of the clergy and academies joined together to preach a renewed and vigorous catholic faith. The influence of this organization became particularly strong during the 18th C.

The city's motto--"Per Tolosa totjorn mai"--is in Occitan and translates to "For Toulouse, always more."
